The Morning After: 30 percent brighter OLED televisions are coming

While I didn’t get it in time for our best 2021 purchases, I am now the proud owner of an LG C1 OLED TV. It’s beautiful, has 4K, HDR, variable refresh rates, and more. Everything looks great on it.

When I bought it, I thought about how I was never at the forefront of TV technology and that it would only be a couple of weeks for LG to ruin everything with even newer TV models.

And like clockwork here it comes. LG displays next generation of OLED technology called “OLED EX”, which “should increase the brightness by up to 30 percent compared to conventional OLED displays”. 65-inch OLED displays.

In defense of my new 55-inch OLED, this is LG Display, not LG, the part of the multinational that is bringing this new TV technology to stores. So that doesn’t mean it lands in a new TV right away. It’s just, sigh, already on the horizon.

Now it’s back.

If you tried playing Fortnite yesterday you may have had problems. Many players were unable to log into their accounts and play games. At 1:13 pm ET, Epic Games said it was investigating “a problem,” and about six hours later the hit battle royale was back online.

Epic Games said there will be “more details on what we’re doing to help you make up for lost time” next week.

China has filed a complaint with the United Nations about two reported near-collisions between the ongoing Tiangong space station and Starlink vehicles. According to Chinese officials, the station had to perform evasive maneuvers on July 1 and October 21 this year to minimize the risk of a collision. In its complaint, the country called on the UN Secretary-General to remind the countries (read: the US) that the parties to the space treaty are responsible for incidents outside of the earth, even if they are private companies.

The allegations are in line with astronomer Jonathan McDowell’s conjunctural observations for both days. China further argued that SpaceX’s satellites are not always predictable. During the October incident, the Starlink aircraft was “continuously” maneuvered in a manner that made it difficult to predict orbit.

Not just an impressive EV, but an impressive truck.

Announcing a vehicle is one thing, actually tracking and building that vehicle at a factory and then selling it, which is an almost impossible feat for a new business. But like Tesla before, Rivian did it and built one of the best trucks on the road, EV or otherwise. Roberto Baldwin takes a test drive.

Jabra just launched its Elite 3 wireless earbuds, but here is their sequel. The Elite 4 Active is a step-up model that offers active noise cancellation and improved IP57 water resistance (from IP55).

Additional audio devices can be automatically paired with Roku televisions.

Roku TVs can quickly pair with even more audio products in the future. The company added Element, JVC, Pheanoo and Philips to its TV-Ready certification program this year, with Polk Audio and Westinghouse joining the list in 2022. Roku has also opened the program internationally, and partners like Bose are expected to launch TV-ready sets in the UK, Canada and Mexico soon.

The TV-Ready initiative makes it easy to connect soundbars and speakers to Roku TVs – as long as the audio device supports the function, it will automatically be recognized as soon as you plug it in.
