US ITC Says Google Infringed Sonos Patents

The US ITC or International Trade Commission has stated that Google has infringed five patents that are owned by. condition Sonos related to smart speakers.

This could mean that Google may have to stop importing devices using these patents, even though Google has stated that there are workarounds for the patents that the ITC has approved.

It is noted that the United States’ International Trade Commission has determined that defendant Google LLC (“Google”) by importing, selling for import, or selling in the United States after importation violated Section 337 of the Customs Act 1930 in the has violated certain audio players and controllers, components thereof and products containing them that infringe one or more claims of US Pat. No. 9,195,258; 10,209,953; 9,219,959; 8,588,949; and 10,439,896. The Commission has determined that the appropriate remedies are a limited exclusion order and an injunction against Google. The commission has also decided to set a deposit equal to 100 percent of the entered value of infringing products imported during the presidential review. This investigation is hereby terminated.

Google has 60 days to make changes to its devices so that they do not infringe on Google’s accepted patents.
